Although Uganda is endowed with fair rainfall compared to the neighboring countries, droughts and floods a common climatic extremes experienced in Uganda. In Uganda occurrence of droughts, are common in Karamoja, and Eastern regions followed by the cattle corridors. Impacts of drought are slow evolving but when its effects have started biting, the impact on community livelihoods is really very costly.
As a mitigation measure to reduce the impacts of these events, analysis of monthly past rainfall performance is conducted to identify evolving drought or flood affected regions. Early identification of these area help in mobilizing different key stake holders in containing the evolving situation. This monthly information is necessary for early warning services and disaster preparedness.
