It is important to place the sconce about 60 inches from the ground and if you install more than one, they should be at least 6 feet apart from each for best results and most safety at home. Sconces have a great design and they are available in a lot of different styles that can make them decorative items on their own. If you want to accentuate a corner of your room, you can easily place corner sconces to give accent to that gorgeous and antique piece of furniture. You can also highlight with them picture frames and small decorative statues.
Using these pieces in the family room is a great idea as well. They can be used, not only for decoration and a bit of light, but also as a shelf to hold that special photo. If you find one that doubles as a small shelf it works well to double up on them and place them on the wall on either side of a large picture with two smaller pictures sitting on the shelves. It gives a feel of balance and organization while showing off those special photos. At the same time it gives a feel of home to the room.
In another bathroom, a similar mirror has been hung above a traditional porcelain topped vanity with a built in, three mount sink with polished brass spigot and handles. This mirror also has an ornate frame but the wood, carved into knots of fruit and acanthus leaves, is painted ivory. The wall sconces have escutcheons painted the same color as the mirror frame, and the incandescent bulbs have silk shades edged with tiny white pompoms and braid.
Wall sconces should always be used in pairs and trios. If you are going to use just a single one, you might not be able to achieve the desired effect that you want in your bathroom since the fixture by itself does not provide adequate lighting for any place. It will also not suit your purpose since the light of a single piece may not be enough to provide proper illumination for your task.
